Australia's Tamworth regional airport has reopened its doors after a A$4.2 million ($4.43 million) facelift.
This includes a terminal extension and security upgrades, says Anthony Albanese, the country's minister for infrastructure and transport.
The terminal building has been revamped, as part of the extension, with its arrival and departure lounges tripling in size. The carpark has also been extended.
New security screening equipment, including explosive trace detection machines, hand held metal detectors and baggage screening machines, have been installed.
The airport was scheduled for a makeover because of a twofold increase in its passenger throughput since 2003, with an average rise of more than 10% yearly, says Albanese.
Statistics from the ministry show that the airport served almost 160,000 passengers in 2011.
