Cubewano is introducing two new engines for small UAVs, the Banshee 34, in air- and liquid-cooled versions. The air-cooled version is targeted at fixed-wing aircraft, the liquid-cooled for hotter-running vertical take-off and landing platforms. Both 4.8hp engines run on heavy fuel. "We've been all heavy fuel for the last 18 months," says founder and managing director Craig Fletcher. Founded in December 2007 with Shaun Addy, Cubewano, began as a start-up in Fletcher's garage. "I saw an opening in the market for small engines to run on heavy fuel," says Fletcher, who has designed engines for BMW, Lotus, Porsche and others as a contract designer. The company has since moved on to a new office, 27 employees and expects to soon announce a major contract.
