Liquid Robotics (booth 4637) has launched two of its Wave Glider unmanned surface vehicles off the coast of Puerto Rico to monitor hurricanes from the sea surface. This is the first time researchers have been able to track hurricane progression from the storm waters, instead of flying aircraft over the eye of the storm.
"Because it's autonomous, you're not putting anyone at risk," says Joanne Masters, head of marketing for Liquid Robotics.
The company also announced that it will create a new subsidiary, Liquid Robotics Federal. Liquid Robotics hired Grant Palmer as the senior vice president of the subsidiary. It will also look to hire experts in business development, program management and technological resources.
