Italian aircraft manufacturer Piaggio returned to the Avalon air show after a four year absence as it pushes its latest generation P180 Avanti, the EVO, especially to the local air ambulance/medevac market.

The manufacturer has a P180 Avanti II, owned by a Melbourne-based operator, in the static park at the show and is seeking local support to boost its presence in the market.

“Australia is a priority market for us,” says Fabrizio Voaggi, regional sales director. Piaggio “strongly believes” in the capabilities of the EVO for the medevac market due to its performance, cabin space, speed, take off performance and patient loading system.

The aircraft is already used as an air ambulance by a number of operators in Europe and the United States. Piaggio previously pitched the Avanti to Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service, but an order did not result. Voaggi also believes the EVO will appeal to Australian corporate and private operators.
