Don’t ask: “Should we introduce connectivity?” or “Will it work?” Do ask: “How soon can we introduce connectivity and how will we make it work for everyone?” That is the advice to airlines that Oman Air chief executive Peter Hill dished out at a recent conference in London.

Hill, whose carrier bears the distinction of being the first in the world to both in-flight mobile connectivity and Wi-Fi, is not alone in his belief that in-flight connectivity has become the cost of doing business.

Carriers from all over the world are adopting solutions that support GSM/GPRS, Wi-Fi or true high-speed Internet, or combinations thereof to satiate the need for passengers to stay connected at all points during the travel experience.
