Spanish carriers Iberia, Clickair and Vueling have issued formal notification to the European Commission of the plan to merge the two budget airlines.

The notification, allocated EU merger case number M5364, confirms that the integration will be achieved through Vueling's absorbing Clickair.

Clickair's corporate equity will be transferred to Vueling, resulting in Clickair's "extinction", says the document.

Once the framework agreement is implemented, it adds, Iberia is expected to acquire control of the entity formed by the Vueling-Clickair combination.

European Commission notification was submitted on 11 November, and the case has a provisional deadline of 16 December.
