Comac's civil aircraft flight test centre has completed its first independent flight test mission, two years after its launch.

ARJ21-700 aircraft 105 landed at Shanghai Dachang Airport on 18 June after 128 minutes in flight. This is the first ARJ21 aircraft, which will be put into commercial use with launch customer Chengdu Airlines.

The aircraft rolled off the final assembly line last December and was transferred to the flight test centre in mid-June. It has since completed multiple tests such as the auxiliary power unit start-up test and high speed taxi tests.

The aircraft is also installed with seat interiors in preparation for delivery to Chengdu Airlines.

Comac is targeting to achieve certification for its ARJ21 by end 2014, after numerous delays to the 12-year-old project as engineers encountered problems in development and certification. The Chinese airframer has so far secured 252 commitments for the regional jet, mostly from Chinese airlines and leasing companies.
