Russian manufacturer AeroKompozit has started constructing the composite wing box panels for the Irkut MC-21 twinjet.

The firm, located at Ulyanovsk, says it is also preparing for series production of the structures.

AeroKompozit will produce upper and lower panels for the wing box, as well as forward and rear spars, as part of the work.

It says these sections will be “the most bulky parts” of the MC-21’s wing.
