Denmark has become the third country, after the UK and Canada, to join the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme. It will contribute $125 million to the system design and demonstration phase of the programme over the next 10 years, of which $20 million will come from Danish industry. Italy and the Netherlands are expected to be the next countries to sign up to the programme.

Officially known as the Survivable Airborne Operations Center, the new aircraft will replace the Boeing E-4B Nightwatch jet capable of commanding the USA’s nuclear arsenal.
