ViaSat’s Exede In the Air Ka-band satellite supported in-flight connectivity service will be certified for use on business aviation aircraft by the end of the year, with service entry scheduled for the first quarter of 2016.

“We’re going through the STCs [supplemental type certificates) and getting the radomes completed on individual aircraft models,” says ViaSat director of global general aviation/VVIP business James Person.

The Exede service will launch with a handful of unnamed individual North American business jet operators, and ViaSat is “working with all three major large-cabin business jet OEMs” to win their custom, says Person.

ViaSat has stationed a satellite dish on top of the Palexpo exhibition hall which it is using to demonstrate the speed of its in-flight Wi-fi services to visitors to its stand at EBACE. “This shows exactly what a user in a large-cabin business jet could experience,” says Person.

ViaSat also announced at the show that it has been selected by Gulfstream Aerospace to provide its Yonder Ku-band satellite supported in-flight connectivity service for use on the G450, G550 and G650 aircraft, as well as on the new G500 and G600 models.
