Egyptian and Greek authorities are concentrating a search for the missing EgyptAir Airbus A320 after indicating that an emergency signal has been received.

The Egyptian civil aviation ministry says that the signal from emergency equipment was received at 04:26.

Egyptian and Greek authorities have deployed aircraft and naval forces and are co-ordinating a search for the missing flight MS804.

Most of the occupants of the A320 which disappeared en route to Cairo from Paris Charles de Gaulle were Egyptian and French nationals.

There were 30 Egyptian citizens and 15 French among the 56 passengers, the carrier states.

EgyptAir says the aircraft had been expected to arrive at Cairo at 03:15. Cairo airport’s arrivals system indicates that flight MS804 had been scheduled to land at 03:05.

The aircraft had departed Paris and had entered Egyptian airspace, which extends to some 170nm (315km) off the coast.

EgyptAir says the flight had been around 280km off the coast when it lost contact.
