Middle Eastern carrier Emirates insists Dubai’s new low-cost carrier will not be part of Emirates Group, despite earlier indications to the contrary.

Emirates says it will support the new airline – which will be led by Emirates’ executive vice-president of operations Ghaith Al Ghaith – during its start-up period.

But while earlier statements from the Dubai government had indicated the carrier would be part of Emirates Group, Emirates says it “will not” come under the airline’s corporate umbrella.

“Initially the new airline will operate regionally within the Gulf Co-operation Council area and surrounding countries,” it adds.

Neither Dubai’s Government nor Emirates has disclosed any further information about the airline’s primary base, fleet type and destination details.
