Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to deploy Airbus A380s on its route to the Egyptian capital Cairo this month.

The airline is to deploy the double-deck type on the connection from Dubai from 27 October.

Emirates' reservations system indicates that Emirates will offer 25 weekly flights to Cairo, varying between three and four daily flights.

The A380 will be deployed on four of these weekly flights, replacing Boeing 777-300ERs. The twinjet will still be used on the other 21 frequencies.

Emirates had previously disclosed that it was raising capacity on the route from the beginning of the winter season by adding four services to its thrice-daily schedule.

Its A380s on the Cairo link will be configured with 489 seats in three classes.

Emirates says it will offer some 9,200 seats weekly each way on the route, suggesting that the overall capacity increase with the A380 amounts to more than 25%.

It operated a one-off A380 flight to Cairo earlier this month, flying on 2 October in order to verify the readiness of the Egyptian hub to accept the type. The route between the cities is around 1,300nm.
