Ethiopian Airlines has officially joined the Star Alliance, becoming the grouping's third African member.
"Today we have taken a large step forward in completing our Africa strategy," said Star chief executive Jaan Albrecht.
The addition of Ethiopian Airlines increases to 28 the number of Star Alliance carriers.
Ethiopian will start participating in Star Alliance fare products from 1 January 2012.
