Brazil's internal revenue service has taken delivery of two Eurocopter EC135 light twin-engine helicopters, as the manufacturer steps up efforts to carve a larger slice of Brazil's rotary-wing aircraft market through its Brazilian subsidiary Helibras.

"The local market is at a boiling point," says Helibras sales manager Mauro Ayres. "We cannot deliver any more helicopters this year because many potential operators are burdened by budgetary constraints, but the demand is certainly there and growing."

Helibras is scheduled to deliver around 30 helicopters this year to government, emergency medical services and corporate operators, and around 10 over the next 18 months for offshore work. Ayres says sales of twin-engined helicopters - notably the EC135 - are particularly strong.
