The US Federal Aviation Administration will hold its type certification review board meeting for the Boeing 747-8 freighter this week, said Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Jim Albaugh.

The meeting will set the jumbo freighter on a path to official type certification in "a couple weeks" with first delivery to launch customer Cargolux expected in September.

Albaugh's comments came at the Jeffries Aerospace and Defence conference in New York.

Boeing completed flight testing on the 747-8F on 3 August.

Albaugh expects increased order activity for the 747 in the coming months, with 111 combined orders for both passenger and freighter variants, with a further 22 additional commitments to be announced "in the near future".
