Low-cost operation AirAsia Group has signed for 50 Airbus A330-900neo jets, the most significant commitment to date for the new type.
The aircraft, subject to a memorandum of understanding, will be delivered to long-haul division AirAsia X.
AirAsia has been a strong supporter of the proposal to re-engine the A330, although it had originally pressed for a General Electric GEnx-powered version.
Airbus has launched the A330neo exclusively with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 powerplants.
