Bombardier has landed its first African customer for the CSeries, with a letter of intent signed for five aircraft.

The airline, which wishes to remain unidentified, is an existing Bombardier customer. The airframer declines to specify if the five aircraft are CS100s or CS300s, adding that the order could include both variants. The order would be worth $365 million at list prices.

"Our customer faces challenging operational environments and needs excellent range for hot and high performance as they expand into new and growing markets," says Bombardier Commercial Aircraft president Mike Arcamone.

Separately, another unidentified customer which previously ordered the CS300 has struck a conditional deal covering seven additional CS300s plus purchase rights for another six CS300s.

Flightglobal understands that this customer is Russian lessor Ilyushin Finance, which firmed up an order for 32 CS300s in June 2013.

The new CSeries announcements will push Bombardier's total orders and commitments for the programme to 513 aircraft, including 203 firm orders.
