Bell Helicopter has unveiled a full-scale mock-up of the X-Hawk vertical take-off and landing vehicle under development by Israeli company Urban Aeronautics. The mock-up is on display at Farnborough in the US manufacturer's pavilion.

Bell has teamed with Urban to explore the potential of the X-Hawk, which has tandem shrouded rotors with upper and lower vanes for flight control and two ducted propellers for forward and rearward flight.

Potential roles for the modular utility vehicle include urban rescue and medical evacuation. Urban is also working on unmanned and military versions.

Bell, meanwhile, is expected to fly its ARH-70A Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) for the first time this week. Under development for the US Army, the ARH is a derivative of the commercial Model 417.
