Iran has suffered a second fatal airliner accident in the country in little more than a week, after an Ilyushin Il-62 crashed on landing at Mashad.

Television pictures from Iran show a badly-damaged Aria Air aircraft, resting on its tail with its entire forward fuselage completely destroyed.

Iranian media are reporting 30 fatalities from the accident.

The aircraft is said to have been transporting 153 passengers on a service from Tehran, identified as flight 1525, and reportedly crashed at 18:10.

One report states that the aircraft slid off the runway and collided with a structure. Images from the scene indicate deployment of at least one emergency slide from a left-hand exit ahead of the wing.

All 168 passengers and crew on a Caspian Airlines Tupolev Tu-154 were killed on 15 July when the aircraft, operating out of Tehran, crashed near the northern city of Qazvin.
