Boeing sees potential for second-hand KC-135 tankers in the Latin American region, and four to five countries in the region and elsewhere have expressed interest to the US government.
The countries, which the US-headquartered airframer declines to name, are in the Latin America and Asia Pacific regions, says Earl Godby, Boeing Defense, Space and Security's director for business development, maintenance, modification and upgrades, international programmes.
Chile is the only Latin American operator of the KC-135, but Godby says there will be a need for second-hand tankers in the region, adding that several parties are in negotiations with the company. Boeing hopes Chile will also expand its fleet. The airframer delivered the last of three KC-135Es, dating from a July 2009 order, to Santiago on 9 March. The aircraft arrived at Boeing's San Antonio facility in June for inspection, repairs, modifications and repainting.
