Garuda Indonesia is seeking a partner to help it establish a flying school to help it meet growing demand for aircrew.

The state-owned carrier says on its website that it is “soliciting expressions of interest from reputable companies to build a flying school in Indonesia” in “joint co-operation” with it.

Garuda adds that interested parties should submit expressions of interest by 4 February.

The Indonesian national carrier said in September that it was considering setting up a cadet pilot training school in joint-venture partnership with foreign or local companies and the call for expressions of interest takes the plan an important step forward.

Garuda currently sends cadets to the government-run Indonesian Civil Aviation Institute for training but the airline anticipates a need for many more pilots in future than the school can train.

Indonesia’s air transport market has been growing rapidly in recent years and Garuda has lost many pilots to higher-paying foreign and local airlines.
