Guangzhou Baiyun International airport will open its new Terminal 2 for operations on 26 April, two months later than planned.

Xiamen Airlines, Saudia, Garuda Indonesia and Kenya Airways will be the first four carriers to operate out of the terminal. China Southern Airlines, which will anchor the terminal, will start operating from the terminal in phases, adds the airport.

The 880,700sqm terminal and transport centre has an annual design capacity of 45 million, with 397 check-in counters, many of which are automated. The new terminal will help in the airport’s development as an international hub.

Last year, Guangzhou Baiyun handled 65.8 million passengers, up 10.2% from the year before, and well above its design capacity of 40 million. Throughput is expected to hit 70 million this year.
