The Indian government has appointed a court of inquiry to look into the fatal Air India Express crash involving a Boeing 737-800 aircraft on 22 May.
Retired air marshal Bhushan Nilkanth Gokhale, the former vice-chief of the Indian Air Force, will head the court, says the civil aviation ministry.
He will be assisted by four other officials, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's airworthiness director S.N. Dwivedi will be the court's secretary, adds the ministry.
The New Delhi-based court is expected to complete its investigations and submit its report to the government by 31 August, says the ministry.
In the 22 May incident, the aircraft crashed at Mangalore International Airport after it overran the runway while landing. Of the 166 people on board, only eight survived.
