Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo has converted 20 of its Airbus A320neos on order to the larger A321neo.

The airline confirmed in a brief statement that deliveries of the A321neos will take place from 2019 onwards, but did not provide any further details.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that IndiGo operates a fleet of 116 A320s, including nine Neo variants powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines. It also has 421 more A320neos on order.

IndiGo’s A320s feature 180 seats in an all-economy layout, while the A321neos could have up to 240 seats in a similar configuration.

The airline has not stated where it intends to fly the larger jets, but the order leaves open the possibility that it may expand its network further.

FlightGlobal schedules data shows that IndiGo primarily flies on domestic routes, and to Dubai, Muscat, Singapore and Bangkok.
