Japan Airlines' first two 787s have arrived in Tokyo after being handed over to the Japanese flag-carrier in Seattle on 26 March.

Outfitted with 186 seats, the 787s feature 42 B/E Aerospace MiniPod lie-flat business class seats in 2-2-2 configuration, and 144 Recaro CL3510 seats in a 2-4-2 eight-abreast arrangement in economy. JAL serves as the launch customer for the Thales i8000 series in-flight entertainment system.

Services to Beijing, Delhi and Moscow are slated to begin before the end of May once additional aircraft are available, with San Diego and Helsinki expected to follow later this year.

JAL has 45 787s on order, including 20 of the larger 787-9s.
