Russia's Transaero Airlines has selected seats from Aviointeriors and Lumexis' fibre optic inflight entertainment and communication system for its retrofit programme of seven Boeing 777 and 747-400 aircraft, although the Italian seat maker says its contract could be extended to up to 40 aircraft through 2017-18.

Aviointeriors will supply the seats for all three classes onboard four 777-300s (373 passengers), and the business class accommodation (24 passengers) on three 747-400s. The retrofit programme will be conducted by SIA Engineering, as some of the aircraft will be taken over from SIA's fleet, according to the Italian company. The first 777 is to be completed by the end of November.

The seat contract could be extended to up to 40 aircraft and lead to a business volume of approximately €40 million ($57 million), according to Aviointeriors.

Transaero has selected the "Fiber-To-The-Seat" IFEC system for all classes on the seven 747-400 and 777 aircraft. One major advantage over conventional systems with copper wiring is lower weight and shorter installation time. Lumexis says its system slashes "more than" 50% in weight and around 30% of installation time.
