Iran's Mahan Air has begun direct flights to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

It operates a twice-weekly service between Shiraz and Kuala Lumpur using Airbus A310-300 aircraft.

"Malaysia Airports is thrilled to welcome yet another airline to KLIA. Mahan Air's presence will further multiply the connectivity at KLIA, particularly to Middle East countries," says Malaysia Airports' senior general manager of operations Azmi Murad.

There were 1.4 million passenger movements from the Middle East sector in 2009, and the airport operator expects growth to continue this year, he adds.
