Japan Airlines (JAL) has chosen Boston as the first destination it would fly to with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and plans to launch the service from Tokyo Narita airport on 22 April 2012.

It will operate on the route four times a week initially before increasing this to a daily flight from 1 June 2012, said the Oneworld carrier. JAL has 35 787-8s on firm order.

JAL will codeshare with its partner American Airlines on the route. "By making full use of the efficiencies of the revolutionary 787 as well as capitalising on our closer relationship with American Airlines, we are confident this new route will prove to be another valuable link for commercial and cultural exchanges between both regions, and more significantly, the onset of JAL's growth strategies going forward," said JAL's president Masaru Onishi.

Schedules in Innovata show that American Airlines, Continental Airlines, and United Airlines currently operate on the Tokyo Narita-Boston route.
