Libyan carrier Afriqiyah Airways has ordered its first Airbus A321s, after converting three previous orders for A320s.

The conversion has been disclosed in Airbus' monthly order data covering the first two months of 2011.

Afriqiyah had been listed as having 11 A320s on order, with six delivered.

But the Airbus data shows that the airline has switched three of these to the larger A321 model.

Tripoli-based Afriqiyah ordered three A319s and six A320s in 2006, before increasing the order by five more A320s in 2007.

Afriqiyah selected CFM International CFM56 engines for the A320 fleet.
