Italy's Trapani Airport, on the west coast of Sicily, is to be closed until further notice tomorrow owing to the military action launched against Libya.
The Italian civil aviation authority ENAC states that the airport will be shut to civil traffic from midnight on 21 March - although aircraft which have already arrived will be allowed to depart for early flights until about 07:30.
"From that time onwards all scheduled services to and from Trapani will operate from other airports," adds ENAC.
Trapani is a station for the Italian air force. The base is located only some 600km directly north of Tripoli, and activity linked to the Libyan military assault has prompted the closure.
Budget carrier Ryanair has a substantial network from Trapani. It says that, owing to the military action, it will transfer flights to Palermo.
Nearly 30 services operated by Ryanair to and from Trapani will be affected by the change. The airline says Trapani will be closed "for an indefinite period".
