A glider pilot and five people aboard a NetJets Hawker 800XP business jet had a lucky escape on 28 August following a mid-air collision at around 16,000ft (4,900m) near Carson City, Nevada.

The pilot of the Schleicher ASW-27 sailplane managed to bail out safely, while the Hawker crew were forced to make a gear-up landing at Carson City airport.

Video of the incident shows significant damage to the nose, and one of the pilots is reported to have suffered minor injuries.
