German engine specialist MTU has opened a spare part warehouse at its overhaul shop in Hannover.

The newly built 7,500m² (80,700ft²) facility will improve internal material supply processes, cut costs and strengthen the company's competitive standing, says MTU.

The inventory was previously stored at an external facility located about 15km (9 miles) from the main site.

Daniela Behrens, state secretary at the regional government in Hannover, said during the facility's opening on 27 March that the administration is supporting MTU with a €3 million ($3.8 million) research grant to develop fuel-saving repair processes.
