Norwegian authorities are expecting knock-on delays after a technical problem in air traffic systems which forced the closure of airspace in the west of the country.

The issue – which has been resolved – centred on a “network problem”, says Jan-Gunnar Pedersen, the en route services director of airspace authority Avinor.

Several airports have been affected, including Bergen, Stavanger, Haugesund and Stord. While back-up systems allowed Avinor to address the problem, which occurred at around 10:00, this reduced available capacity.

Avinor says it is expecting traffic to “normalise” during the day but cautions that some delays are still likely.
