Chinese carrier Ruili Airlines has tentatively signed for 20 Boeing 737 Max jets.
The airline disclosed the agreement, the subject of a memorandum of understanding, during the Paris air show.
Boeing has not detailed the specific variant selected by the Kunming-based carrier.
It says Ruili operates 14 737s on 28 domestic routes.
Ruili general manager Xie Jinguo says the Max is a "compelling aircraft" for the airline's domestic and regional operations.
Boeing has yet to finalise the deal but values it at $2.2 billion at catalogue prices.
