Dassault’s flagship business jet and Paris airshow debutante the Falcon 8X has wowed Paris’ air show visitors this week during its daily flying routine in the skies above Le Bourget.

The $57.5 million ultra-long-range business jet is a stretched and longer-legged version of the eight-year old 7X.

It sits at the helm of Dassault’s six-strong, high-end Falcon business jet family, whose entry-level product is the 3,350nm (6,200km)-range super-midsize 2000S.

The fly-by-wire 8X has a range of 6,450nm (11,950 km) – 500nm more than the 7X – more powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307D engines and a redesigned ultra-efficient wing derived from its stablemate. It also boasts a 13m cabin featuring up to 30 interior configurations.

Two aircraft are currently taking part in the certification campaign at Dassault’s Istres flight test centre in southern France. The third aircraft – which made its first flight last month – was shipped a week ago to the airframer’s US completion facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. A full interior is now being installed in preparation for cabin and sound level testing later this year.

Dassault is confident its 19-seat trijet will secure certification and enter service by the end of next year.
