Diamond Aircraft Industries has taken the wraps off the DA50 Superstar, an all-composite five-seater powered by a single diesel or gasoline piston engine of up 350hp (260kW), but has provided little detail on its latest aircraft.

The DA50 was unofficially presented to employees and guests at the company’s Christmas party at its headquarters in Wiener Neustadt in Austria. Only one picture has been released from the event, showing a fixed tricycle gear, four-blade propeller and T-tail with down-turned tips.

Diamond says the “all-new five-seater will be the most spacious in the new generation of single-engine aircraft in general aviation. The DA50 expands a fast-selling light aircraft range that includes the two-seat DA20, four-seat DA40 Diamond Star, twin-engined DA42 Twin Star and the single-turbofan D-Jet.

The Twin Star is powered by a pair of 135shp Thielert Centurion 1.7 turbo-diesels, while the DA40 is available with either the diesel or a Lycoming gasoline engine. Diamond has not named the engine for the DA50, but Thielert is developing a 350hp diesel, the Centurion 4.0.
