The end of an era was signalled for Airbus at its Toulouse headquarters yesterday, with the departure of the last Airbus A300 to be built on its delivery flight to FedEx Express's Memphis base.

The A300-600 Freighter (N692FE/MSN 878) is the last of 561 of the twinjets to be delivered. The first A300, a B2, was delivered to Air France in 1974. Airbus also delivered 255 A310s from the same line between 1983 and 1998.

To mark the historic occasion, the FedEx A300-600F made a low pass along Toulouse's main runway on 19 July.
