An Airbus A380 visited Bangkok earlier this week for the first time, in an unscheduled publicity visit.

The aircraft, Airbus manufacturer's serial number 002, landed at Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi airport, following an 11h 35min flight from Toulouse. The flight was not part of the route proving programme completed at the end of November.

It is believed the flight was only scheduled recently following a request from Thai Airways International. Thai has an order for six A380s but its hub was not one of the 10 airports in the Asia-Pacific region to participate in the route proving programme. Since first flight in April 2005, the hub of nearly every A380 customer has hosted a test flight.

During its visit this week, the aircraft will be shown to officials from Thai Airways and the Airport Authority of Thailand. It will also undertake a series of airport compatibility verification tests. Suvarnabhumi airport opened in late September.
