One of the pilots flying a Bangkok Airways ATR 72-500 (HS-PGL) was killed when the airliner slid off the runway when landing at Koh Samui on 4 August.

The accident happened at the end of flight PG266 from Krabi, with 68 passengers and four crew on board. Four passengers were seriously injured. Bangkok Airways president Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth says the aircraft struck a "former control tower" after skidding off the runway.

Weather at the time (around 14:00) points to good visibility, although towering cumulus clouds - an indicator of heavy rain in the vicinity - were present and there was a crosswind from the east at 15kt (28km/h).
