European regulators have finally awarded a type certificate for the Pratt & Whitney PW6000-powered version of the Airbus A318, two years after the rival CFM International CFM56-equipped variant gained approval. The PW6000’s compressor had to be redesigned late in the development programme due to performance shortfalls. Chile’s LAN will be the engine’s launch operator.
