Qatar Airways has taken delivery of its second ex-All Nippon Boeing 747-100, and plans to buy more before the end of the year. The Doha-based airline, which is competing heavily with Emirates and multi-national carrier Gulf Air on routes from the Gulf area, will introduce a new service from Doha to Bangkok in October, with an extension planned to Sydney in Australia. The 747s are now used on a twice-weekly service from London Gatwick to Doha, and on to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Male in the Maldive islands.
