Oneworld carrier Qatar Airways is to resurrect its Japanese route to Osaka, restarting the service from early summer next year.

The Middle Eastern operator says it will re-open flights to the destination on 6 April, shortly after the beginning of the 2020 summer season.

Qatar Airways currently serves the Japanese capital with links to Tokyo Narita and Haneda airports.

But Osaka had originally been the Doha-based carrier’s first destination in Japan, before it dropped the route, citing commercial reasons, three years ago.

The airline is to deploy Airbus A350-900s on the route, configured in two classes featuring 36 business- and 247 economy-class seats.

Qatar will fly five-times weekly to Osaka from Doha but increase the frequency to a daily connection from 23 June.

It says the link is “highly sought-after”, despite its previous axing of the route.

Qatar Airways is the only operator between the two countries, according to Cirium schedules data, flying A350-1000s and Boeing 777-300ERs to Tokyo.
