Russia's S7 Group is close to finalising a purchase agreement to take over maintenance company Domodedovo-Technik.

The firm is an in-house maintenance arm of Moscow Domodedovo Airport operator East Line which apparently wants to spin it off as a non-core business.

Sources at the airport say the two sides are putting the finishing touches to the deal and S7 has already paid a commitment fee ahead of signing it.

S7's locally-based operation, S7 Engineering, would be enhanced by incorporating Domodedovo-Technik's facilities. S7 could not be reached for comment.

In 2002 the plant became the first Russian MRO specialist to receive approval for overhaul work on Western aircraft types. Its current capabilities include C-checks on Boeing 737, 757 and 767 models as well as line maintenance on Airbus A320s.

Initially East Line Group, Domodedovo Airport's operator, held negotiations about selling the plant with Lufthansa Technik and Air Berlin.
