Saab is to strengthen its virtual simulator portfolio through the acquisition of assets from Czech company E-COM.

Saab is effectively buying all of E-COM's assets, says Henrik Hojer, head of simulation and training at Saab's Security and Defence Solutions business. "We are buying all their products and intellectual property rights and all the employees will eventually move to Saab." He declines to give the cost of the acquisition.

E-COM has developed a range of simulators including those for forward air controllers and surface-to-air missile crews.

E-COM will continue to exist as a company and, in its reduced form, pursue some of its current projects in co-operation with Saab.

"Saab and E-COM have great technological synergies and Saab has the sales and marketing resources needed in this highly competitive market," says Ivan Jandl, E-COM's CEO.
