Singapore Airlines' regional wing SilkAir today finalised a commitment signed on 3 August for 54 Boeing 737s, including 31 re-engined and updated 737 Max 8s.

The deal, which is valued at $4.9 billion at list prices, raises Boeing's backlog of the 737 Max family to 909.

Boeing launched the 737 Max in August 2011, and the order backlog has grown steadily during the past 15 months.

The CFM Leap-1B-powered single-aisle aircraft is scheduled to enter service in 2017, including split-tip winglets, a redesigned nose cone and a nose-gear extension.
