Spirit Airlines will begin service to Cleveland Hopkins International airport in January 2015, with service planned to eight destinations.
The Miramar, Florida-based carrier will launch daily Orlando, and seasonal four-times weekly Fort Myers and three-times weekly Tampa service on 15 January 2015, it says.
Dallas/Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas service will begin on 5 February 201,5 and Los Angeles and seasonal Myrtle Beach service on 16 April 2015. All of the flights operate once daily.
“Cleveland and northeastern Ohio have endured high fares long enough," says Mark Kopczak, vice-president of network planning at Spirit, in a statement. "Spirit's super low bare fares, with frill control allows customers to choose only those extras they want to pay for and gives them the most control over their travel budget.”
The airline operates a fleet of all Airbus A320 family aircraft.
With the move, Spirit joins Frontier Airlines in adding service to Cleveland since United Airlines announced plans to downsize its hub at the airport in February.
Frontier and United fly from Cleveland to Dallas/Fort Worth, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Orlando and Tampa, Innovata schedules show. American Airlines also flies to Dallas/Fort Worth and Southwest Airlines to Las Vegas.
United is the only airline serving Los Angeles from the airport, while no airlines fly to Myrtle Beach.
