Singapore-based maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) firm ST Aerospace will build a new hangar to focus on general aviation work.

To make room for the hangar at its facilities at Seletar Aerospace Park, the firm will demolish a helicopter hangar, ST Aerospace president Chang Cheow Teck said in an interview with Flightglobal.

"It will focus on charter operations, VIP medical evacuations and MRO work for GA [general aviation]. The new hangar will be very much nicer and focused on GA customers," he added.

The MRO's move is in line with the Singapore government's plans to develop Seletar Aerospace Park and reinforce the country's position as a major aerospace centre.

More details on the new hangar will be announced soon, Chang said.

He added that he expects the general aviation sector to grow with the opening of the aerospace park and that the MRO aims to bring in more business related to general aviation.
