Australia's main gateway Sydney airport has posted an 8% increase in passenger traffic in December on strong growth in the international market.
Total passenger traffic rose 8% to 3.1 million from 2.8 million a year ago, says operator MAp Airports.
Domestic passenger traffic increased 6.5% to two million, while international passenger traffic rose 11.4% to 1.1 million, it adds.
"This growth looks set to continue into the new year, evidenced by recent capacity announcements from Air New Zealand, China Southern and Philippine Airlines," says MAp CEO Kerrie Mather.
Traveller growth from the USA, France and Germany was the strongest, but the Japan and China markets declined, says the company.
In Europe, passenger traffic at MAp's Copenhagen airport grew 3.9% to 1.4 million. Passenger traffic at Brussels airport fell 1.1% to 1.14 million, adds MAp.
