Thai AirAsia will develop Chiang Rai as the carrier's seventh hub, by launching four domestic and international services between 30 January 2019 and 1 February 2019.

The airline will start thrice-weekly Chiang Rai-Macau, Chiang Rai-Phuket, Chiang Rai-Singapore services, as well as four-times weekly Chiang Rai-Kuala Lumpur flights.

"We chose the 3 international destinations of Macau, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur because they already account for a strong amount of visitors to Thailand who will likely be interested in Chiang Rai. Domestically, we chose Phuket to offer the best possible regional connection," says the airline's chief executive Santisuk Klongchaiya.

FlightGlobal schedules data shows that the airline will compete with Thai VietJet Air on the Chiang Rai-Phuket route. It will be the sole carrier to fly from Chiang Rai to Macau, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
